Flickr in the Classroom

I have thought about how I could utilize this technology in my classroom. I currently have a website which I update on a weekly basis. I have a page to which I add approximately 8 - 10 photos. When I update with new photos, the old photos are no longer available for viewing. If I started a Flickr account for my classroom I could post the albums there. Parents would then be able to go back and see all the pictures from the year.

I am contemplating how I would be able to invite all those parents to be friends, as it doesn't seem like a good idea to have the students photos posted publicly. I feel that as I am adding more technology to my class, I will need to be asking parents for their email addresses when I send home those start of the year letters asking for contact information.

I agree. I would want to have the parents be part of the group and not have those photos go out to everone. Currently I am in charge of the yearbook, the district newsletter, and the student newspaper. We have the parents sign a release (opt out policy) at the beginning of each year so that we know exactly who we can and who we cannot post on the web. We have had no problems to date. If you want a copy of what we use, let me know and I will be sure to get one to you. Good luck! Mary Beth
